About the Role

This role is responsible for delivering tailored Disability Employment Services (DES) to Barkuma Employment participants with developmental disabilities. You’ll provide practical, on-site support, immersing yourself in a range of industries to coach and prepare participants for success in their roles. Managing a diverse caseload, you’ll guide individuals through every stage of their employment journey while collaborating with a supportive team. As a key representative of Barkuma, you’ll uphold our values and mission, fostering a positive and professional image of the organisation
This role requires providing assistance and support to vulnerable individuals, making a meaningful impact on their lives.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Prioritise needs of caseload and deliver supports appropriate to each individual
  • Identify barriers to participants’ employment and implement effective supports to address them
  • Conduct skills assessments and provide career counselling to guide participants toward suitable employment pathways.
  • Assist with job searches, actively negotiate employment opportunities, and contribute to placement targets.
  • Deliver on-the-job support and training.
  • Maintain accurate records and stay current with DES requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with participants, families, employers, and external stakeholders (e.g., Centrelink).

 

What you will need be successful in this role:

  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong, effective working relationships.
  • Strong person-centred approach and communication skills
  • Understanding of the National Standards for Disability Services and their practical application.
  • Creative thinking with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability to changing circumstances, and a flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong professional commitment to supporting and empowering people with disability.

Qualifications and Clearances:

  • Current NDIS Worker Screening or DHS Disability clearance (or willingness to obtain)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module ‘Quality, Safety and You’ (or willingness to obtain)
  • Child Safe Environment for Children and young People (or ability to obtain prior to commencement)
  • Infection Control Certificate

Other Conditions:

  • Work rights for Australia.
  • Ability to work after hours and weekend work as required.
  • Hold a current driver’s license (essential) and
