Barkuma Community Support

Support Worker

Barkuma’s Community Living Support service provides individualised assistance to adults with intellectual and other disabilities to help them maintain an independent, happy and healthly lifestyle in the community. This support is provided in a range of settings, from the family home, to a rental home or other private accommodation. 

The role is to primarily to respond to leave requirements but we are also offering one regular shift once per fortnight on a Saturday to build a connection with the organisation,  team and client.

The position would ideally suit applicants:

  • Interested in supporting people with an intellectual disability to live in his or her own home within the local community  - the Northern / Northern East Suburbs.

or

  • To provide a friendly home environment for a mother and her teenage son who require support for some complex social, emotional and personal care needs.

and

  • Have a commitment to the worth of all people and a desire to support and nurture wellbeing happiness.
  • Personal Care duties can be part of the role.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision whilst promoting a positive team approach.
  • The applicant must have a current driver’s licence, road worthy car, Senior First Aid Certificate and a police check (or willingness to have a police check).

Preference will be given to applicants who have a Certificate 3 Community Services
(disability), or in the case of the children services have a willingness to obtain a qualification or a Certificate in Child-Care / Family-care. 

Passive duty and weekend work can be part of the relief support role

Hourly rate: $23.33 per hour plus shift penalties as per the Barkuma Inc Enterprise Agreement No 5 of 2009. Applicants must have a current driver’s licence and be willing to undertake a police check. Preference will be given to applicants who have a Certificate 3 Community Services or are or willingness to obtain a qualification.
