IMPORTANT MEMORANDUM

 Swine Flu Pandemic

 I am writing about the recent reports of a potential swine flu pandemic in the media.

This memo is to advise that Barkuma has a Pandemic Contingency Plan in place and that this plan has now  been activated.

At this stage I would like to reassure you that there is no need to be concerned.  Although swine flu has been confirmed in Adelaide, this is an isolated case and every effort is being made by government to prevent the spread of this virus.

In accordance with Barkuma’s Pandemic Contingency Plan, strict Infection Control Protocols are being implemented and enforced in all Barkuma services to protect clients, staff and visitors and reduce the potential spread of infection. This means everyone will be required to follow strict hand washing protocols and use gloves or masks as required.  

Employees/staff presenting with flu symptoms will be isolated until they can return home safely. No one will be permitted to return to work unless they have a written clearance from a Doctor stating that they are not infectious. Specific control measures are in place for Barkuma Community Support clients. Guidance will be provided to ensure compliance with these protocols

If the Government advices of control measures to restrict the spread of the swine flu, Barkuma services will be restricted or may be even shut down. Only Barkuma Community Support will continue to provide a limited service with specific control measures in place to reduce people movement and minimize any potential transmission of infection.

The shut down of any services will remain in force until the Government advises Barkuma that it is safe to resume normal services.

Any clients receiving a service from Barkuma Community Support or Client Services and whose support may be affected, will receive a call from Barkuma advising them (and/or their parents, carers) of the course of action.
